Fairfax County, VA as distinguished between Fairfax City (an independently governed jurisdiction), is located in the eastern part of Virginia just west and southwest of Washington D.C.

Fairfax is VirginiaŐs most populated county with one million residents and the third largest jurisdiction in the Washington metropolitan region. The county has an estimated 4,000 technology companies among the areaŐs 24,000 businesses and trade associations boasting one of AmericaŐs most diverse economies. Ranked as one of the nationŐs largest suburban office markets, it is headquarters for several Fortune 500 companies: General Dynamics, Freddie Mac, Sallie Mae, Capital One Financial and the Mid-Atlantic headquarters of Microsoft. Fairfax was the first in the nation to break the $90,000 median family income bracket and is statistically considered to be AmericaŐs wealthiest county. Fairfax boasts a first rate public school system and has nearly 30,000 acres of parkland.

Discerning between a Fairfax mailing address, Fairfax City and Fairfax County with its many towns and districts can be misleading. The City of Fairfax and Fairfax County are completely independent of each other, different government services, tax rates and elected officials. The Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes cities as separate from any surrounding geographic regions. Fairfax zip code mailing addresses include: Fairfax City, Fair Lakes, Fair Oaks and the immediate surrounding areas. The Fair Lakes and Fair Oaks regions are not within the Fairfax City jurisdiction; they are governed by Fairfax County. The new home market in this region is extensive with a wide variety of prices and home styles available.

New condos in Fairfax, VA start from the low $200Ős for condominium conversions at Penderbrook Square. New townhomes start from the low $500's by Eakin Youngentob at Centerpointe and new luxury homes in Fairfax County range from the low $600Ős by the Christopher Companies at Chandler's Grove. These well-built luxury townhouses are a "must see" for new homebuyers seaching for high quality residential construction conveniently located near mass transit. With higher fuel costs, new homes in Fairfax County near a Northern Virginia Metro with less congested road networks are likely to appreciate better than new home communities in Fairfax, VA located in less accessible locations. Stanley Martin's Kendall Square is priced from $532,990 and The Reserve at Tyson's Corner, built by a division of home builder Madison Homes is priced from $735,000.

There is also a demand for higher quality custom homes in Northern Virgina. The Council can advise consumers of several reputable custom builders in Northern Va. These builders often use more expensive construction materials or you may select the materials you wish to build with. Unless a new home buyer is in the industry, they lack the knowledge to fully comprehend how to approach a builder and the building process in general.
