Reston voted Top Ten small cities in USA

Reston, VA founded in 1961 by Robert E. Simon, is recognized as America's foremost planned community. After graduating from Harvard, Mr. Simon sold his family's property Carnegie Hall and purchased 6,759 acres of beautifully wooded land in Fairfax County. This real estate would become Reston, Virginia named after Mr. Simon's initials. Simon's planned community, or "New Town," emphasizes a very high quality of life for both individuals and corporations providing an upscale environment where people can live, work and play.

Today, despite being considered one of America's high technology centers, Reston real estate has kept much of its natural beauty with its intense foliage, lakes, ponds, golf and park-like ambiance. Just six miles from Dulles International Airport and conveniently located next to the Dulles Toll Road, Reston is one of the most desireable urban-suburban communities in the Washington metropolitan area. Companies such as Oracle, SAIC, Roll Royce, Molson, Northrop Grumman, NVR, Microsoft and Google have their Mid-Atlantic headquaters located in Reston at or near the Town Center.

Reston's living density is approximately one third the residential density of surrounding townships; it's pleasant, peaceful and relatively uncongested. Only one opportunity exists for new homes in Reston ... Midtowh Reston Condominiums inside the Town Center as Reston townhome and condominium communities are basically fully developed. New homes in Reston have not been built for nearly a decade, but there are several relatively new single family subdivisions approximately ten years old. Reston is somewhat more expensive than many other new homes in Fairfax County, but the value is extraordinary including a new Orange Line metrostop scheduled to open in 2012/13. However, adjacent Herndon, Oakton and Great Falls areas offer several homebuilding opportunities and new home communities.

People from all over the Washington area visit Reston for its myriad of restaurants, shops and recreational activities. The nationally acclaimed Reston Town Center features outdoor concerts, premiere stores, dining facilities, theatres, even a Hyatt Hotel and Conference Center. Reston, Virginia real estate is par excellence, community-oriented and a wonderful place to raise a family.

Paramount condos, The Savoy, Market Street, Stratford House, Carlton House, Parc Reston and the Mercer condominiums are available for resale and all are relatively new properties. The West Market community located at the Town Center won Washington's coveted Community Of The Year upon completion. West Market is most desireable offering luxury townhouse and condominium living ranging from $350 to one million dollars. If a real estate listing comes up in West Market, multiple contract offers are not uncommon.

Overall, Reston condominiums and townhomes for sale range from the mid 200's to nearly two million dollars at Midtown. A few are remaining in the 400's at Midtown for those interested in owning new luxury Reston condos inside the Town Center. There are no new townhomes in Reston for sale.

The median price of single family homes for sale in Reston is over $500,000.
